If you’d like an idea of how long it could take to load and unload your possessions into and out of the removal van the table below might help you.

Please note though, it’s only a rough guide because all moves are different and circumstances change.

 

Total time to load and unload assuming the van is parked close to the doorway or storage unit.

Amount Ground floor  to ground floor 1 flight of stairs
2 or more flights of stairs in total
Single Item: Chair, sofa, freezer, etc. 10 minutes 15 minutes 20 minutes
2 or 3 items. (2 boxes which can be carried at once count as 1 item) 15 minutes 20 minutes 30 minutes
4 or 5 items 20 minutes 25 minutes 40 minutes
Contents of bedsit with up to 5 boxes 1 hour 30 minutes 1 hour 45 minutes 2 hours 0 minutes
Contents of 1 bed flat with up to 10 boxes 2 hours 0 minutes 2 hour 20 minutes 2 hour 30 minutes
Contents of 2 bed flat or small house with up to 15 boxes 2 hours 30 minutes 2 hours 45 minutes 3 hours 0 minutes
Contents of 3 bed house with up to 20 boxes 3 hours 30 minutes 3 hours 45 minutes 4 hours 0 minutes

NOTES

Boxes (Properly sized and packed boxes can save time & you, money) Should weigh no more than 25 kg Be secure especially at the bottom Labelled “Fragile” if  nothing should be placed on top of them.
1 or 2 men The timings should be much the same as above because if you need 2 men the items are assumed to be that much heavier.
The above is just a rough guide to help you gauge how much time you might need to allow for loading and unloading for your move. The better  prepared you are the more time you’ll save on moving day. For example dismantling your bed the day before or carrying  boxes down stairs and placing them near to the front door will save time . Purchasing a “Moving Kit” can help you pack more efficiently.
